Description: | Method used to handle end-of-period storage. |
Storage End Effects Method controls
the treatment of the final End
Volume of each simulation step, and how Waterway
flows-in-transit are valued or
constrained in the optimization. The switch can take these values:
- Automatic (value = 0)
- The simulator chooses the "Free" option for storage that define Water Value, or if the storage
is the head or tail in a simple pump storage generator, otherwise it
chooses the "Recycle" option.
- Free (value = 1)
- End Volume is set freely by
the optimization i.e. no additional constraints or values
are applied, and flows-in-transit flow into "the sea".
- Recycle (value = 2)
- The End Volume is
constrained equal to the Initial
Volume and flows-in-transit
recycle back to the beginning of the optimization step. This option
adds a constraint to the simulation. The penalty for violating this
constraint is by default -1 (indicating a 'hard' constraint). This
can be changed with the setting Recycle
Penalty.
Note that when LT Plan and/or MT
Schedule are run before ST
Schedule End Effects Method = "Recycle" applies only to the
first simulation phase unless Decomposition
Method is set to "None". For example MT
Schedule would recycle storage over each year and pass targets
to ST Schedule that follow this
recycling trajectory.
