Column Type = Text
This optional column is used to define regions for Aggregate Areas. Each region is a collection of one or more Aggregate Areas and is currently used for three purposes:
Marginal Cost of Loss Calculation: By default the calculation of loss sensitivities for each bus will be determined by system-wide losses on all branches. When regions are defined, though, the loss sensitivities for each bus are based only on branches which have at least one end in the same region as the bus. This enables users to mimic the behavior of central dispatchers which may calculate loss sensitivities based only on their regional footprint. When regions are defined in this column, though, the actual calculation of physical losses on the system will remain the same.
Net Export Constraints with Wheeling: When wheeling is defined and the switch Use wheeling for AA net export calc only is selected, the model will create net export constraints for aggregate areas. If regions are defined, then the model will look to see if any wheeling exists between aggregate areas in any single region. If so, the model will create a net export constraint for each aggregate area; otherwise it will create one net export constraint for each region.
Commitment Optimization: When using commitment optimization and the Solve representation = Region, commitment is first solved based on the regions defined. The representation of the system external to each region when the commitment is determined is based on of Commitment External Representation setting.
NOTE: If no Region has been specified for an external area with composite buses, Aurora determines the closest OPF region for solving commitment. If a Region has been specified for an external area with composite bus, commitment will be solved by the region.
