Cloud FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about processing Aurora projects in the Cloud when using Aurora 15.0.

Q: Why can't I see all the simulations I have run in the Cloud from the Cloud Simulations window in Aurora?

The Cloud Simulations window in Aurora is designed to display all the simulations that have been run for the current Cloud Study. A Cloud Study is created and linked with an Aurora project when it is uploaded the first time. Any simulations that are not visible are part of a Study that’s not associated with the project that’s currently open in Aurora. Opening the correct project for the Cloud Study will allow the user to view those simulations in Cloud Simulations.

Q: Why is my simulation queued but it hasn’t started running yet?

The most common cause of a simulation getting queued for a long time is that the Current Core Usage has reached a maximum. The simulation may be queued until enough cores become free to provide the number of cores requested by the simulation. If you don’t want to wait for cores to free up, you could cancel the queued simulation and start a new one that requests fewer cores to avoid that limit.

Q: Why does Aurora say it's going to move my project files when I upload my project to the Cloud?

To upload a project, Aurora needs to have the project, input database, and other files in a folder that doesn’t contain any other projects and databases. So, before an upload, Aurora will move the files to a folder named after the Study it’s linked to. Paths to the input database and other files will be automatically updated, so no user action is required after the files are moved. From this point forward, it’s important to use the version of the project that is copied to the new folder, because that’s the copy of the project that is linked to the Cloud Study.

Q:  Can I see my output on the web when my cloud simulation has completed?

Not currently. Because Aurora output databases are a completely different format than PLEXOS solutions, there isn’t currently a way to view output data in the web interface. Instead, users can simply download the output from the cloud using the simulations list and view it in the Aurora output window. Once output is downloaded from the cloud, it can be viewed and analyzed just as if it were generated by a local Aurora simulation.

Q: Can I start more than one cloud simulation at a time from the same project?

Yes. Just start the first simulation from the Run button on the Cloud ribbon. Then you can make changes to your Study Cases, Simulation Options, Change Sets, and other settings. Save your project. Use the Sync button to upload your latest changes and use Run to start the new simulation. When you open the Cloud Simulations list, you’ll see both simulations running. Each is running in a separate environment with the cores, memory and Aurora engine version you picked.
