Change Set Ribbon

The Change Sets menus and ribbon tabs are accessed via the top-left of the window. See the information below for a complete description of all the features included in the ribbon.

Control

Activate/Deactivate

These buttons activate or deactivate the selected Change Set. When active, all data associated with this Change Set is reflected automatically in the input tables as they are opened and edited. Further, a run performed while the Change Set is active will apply that data to the study. The status bar at the upper right of the input tables will also indicate the current active Change Set.

If another Change Set is activated, the prior active Change Set will be automatically deactivated. Alternatively, this feature can also deactivate the currently active Change Set, and return data to the underlying input database.

With a Change Set active, a base case run (started by clicking the Run button on the Home Tab ribbon) will use the values in the active Change Set.  Refer to the Study Cases folder of Simulation Options for more information on configuring runs using Change Sets.

Change Set Management

Rename Change Set

This button is used to rename a Change Set.  A Change Set, not a table name, must be selected in order to access the button.

Delete Change Sets

This button is used to delete multiple Change Sets at one time.  A pop-up window will appear, where you can select any Change Sets you want to delete.  Selecting a folder will delete the folder and everything in it. The project or Change Set file must be saved for permanent deletion.

Merge

If a project contains more than one Change Set, tables from within them can be merged into a new Change Set using this button. See Merging Change Sets for more information.

Apply Unsaved Changes

This button is used to "apply" the changes and saves them temporarily to memory. They are not permanently saved to a project file or Change Set file (.csf) and will be deleted if the project is closed. The button will only be available when new changes are not yet saved to memory.

Alternatively, the Save Change Sets button, or the main project Save, is used to save all pending edits within an input dataset to a Change Set and save it to the project file or Change Set file (.csf).

Revert All Changes

This button is used to restore Change Sets to the last saved state and remove any unsaved/applied changes.

View

New Folder

This button is used to add a new user-defined folder for organizing various Change Sets. Once folders are created, drag and drop Change Sets to move them between folders.

View and Edit Table Differences

This button displays the differences between the data held in the underlying input database and the selected Change Set table. Select a table in the Change Set tree to activate this button. See Change Sets for more information.

Filter on Selection

This button filters the Change Sets in view so that only those with the selected item are shown. It can filter on a Change Set name or a table, showing all Change Sets that have edits to the selected table. Once a filter is applied, the window will show what filter has been applied

Clear Filter

Once a filter is applied, the Clear Filter button in the ribbon is active and the window will show what filter has been applied. If no filter is applied, the button will be unavailable and the window will not have any information.

Compare Change Sets

This button is used to launch the dbCompare tool preselected for Change Sets.  Clicking the button launches a popup where Change Sets can be selected for comparison.  Upon clicking OK, dbCompare automatically opens in a new window and begins the comparison.  Only changes that have been applied or saved will be included in the compare.

File Operations

Save Change Sets

This button is used to save all pending edits within an input dataset to a Change Set and writes it to a project file or Change Set file (.csf).

NOTE: Change Sets and direct database changes are NOT compatible. Energy Exemplar highly recommends users choose which mode they want to work in. Energy Exemplar cannot guarantee results when the two modes of operation are intermixed. If the modes are intermixed, the user should test and verify that things are working as expected. If large changes to the database are required, it is recommended that users work with Change Sets only when the changes to the database are complete. Also, Energy Exemplar cannot guarantee that Change Sets will work with linked tables (Excel worksheets). Change Sets can only work with a linked table if the worksheet contains a “Primary Key” column, all values within this column are unique, and the Primary Key values remain consistent with those referenced within the Change Set (the primary key values when the Change Set was created). Primary key values within an Excel worksheet cannot be automatically controlled from the Aurora interface; therefore, managing and maintaining validity of the primary key values within linked tables is the responsibility of the user.  Please contact Support with questions.

Save Edits to DB

This option is used to save all active changes and current edits directly to the input database.  If a Change Set is currently active, all changes associated with it will be written to the input database and the Change Set will be removed from the project.

NOTE: There is no UNDO for this action.

Import

This button is used to import Change Sets from projects (.apz) or Change Set files (.csf).  A prompt provides the selection of individual Change Sets from within the file.

NOTE: Imported Changes Sets will show up as inactive in the window.  Change Sets with duplicate names will automatically be renamed with a numerical increment.

Export

This button is used to save selected Change Sets independently of the project files in a Change Set file (.csf).  The Change Set file can then be opened in other project files and applied to the database.  This feature is especially useful for breaking up Change Sets into smaller files and load them individually as needed.

Edit Change Set Location

Change Sets can be stored within the project file (.apz) or in an external Change Set File (.csf).  This button is used to change the location of where the current Change Sets are saved.  The current location is shown at the bottom of the change set window.

When Store in Project File is checked, the Change Sets will be saved directly in the project file.

  • If this option is selected when current setting is Store Change Set File, then the Change Sets are copied into the project, set as Applied, and not permanently saved in the project until the project is saved.

When Store in Change Set File is selected, the Change Sets will be saved to a Change Set file (.csf) that is separate from the project.

NOTE: Changing from Store in Project to a .csf will REMOVE all existing Change Sets within the current project file upon project save.

  • If an existing file is selected, further options are available to overwrite the file contents with the current Change Sets, or open an existing file.
