This feature is used to select the number of decimal places displayed for selected column(s) of numeric data. Select the column, right-click and choose Set Decimals from the menu. Select the desired display option from the list. Selecting "General" will show the complete number for all data (regardless of number of decimal places) and thus provides the max internal precision for the underlying variable type (9 digits for singles, 17 for doubles).

Using this feature does not change the contents of the underlying table.
