Sus Maximum

Together, the Sus Maximum and Sus Number columns define the sustained peaking limitations for a hydro set. They are used in conjunction to control the maximum amount of energy that can be generated across a limited time window within a day. The Sus Maximum is a factor applied to unit capacity adjusted for availability. The Sus Number is the number of hours in a week to which the constraint applies, and is assumed to apply to weekdays only.  Refer to the following example:

Example Assumptions:
Project capacity = 100 MW
Project availability = 100%
Sus Maximum = 0.8 (or 80%)
Sus Number = 50 hours/week (or 50/5 weekdays = 10 hours/day)

Example Calculation:

For a given weekday, the generation limitation over the highest 10 hour period = 100 MW * 0.8 * 10 hours = 800 MWh.  The shaping logic would not allow the highest 10 hours of generation in any day to exceed 800 MWh.  Generation during a given hour within the highest 10 hours cannot exceed 80 MW.  Also, the 10 highest hours during a given weekday may not be consecutive.

NOTE: Inputs can use annual and monthly vectors to change this value across the course of a study.  For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.
