Enable Demand Side Generators

Check this box to enable ‘demand side generators’ that represent unserved energy. Demand side generators provide a robust solution by providing a set of high-priced resources to respond to an overload in the event no other resources can respond.

When enabled, demand side generators allow the model to add dispatch segments above the capability defined by all zonal units mapped to the nodal generator buses. (These segments are analogous to the ‘load curtailment’ resources in the zonal solution.) By enabling this option, additional MW’s can be injected where needed to promote a feasible solution. The associated cost of the demand side generators will ensure that these additional MW’s are used as a last option.

This feature is also controlled using the Demand Side Price Ratio setting.

NOTE: Enabling demand side gens can significantly increase the problem size, thereby slowing the solution, and the resultant LMP’s may be significantly impacted. Therefore this option should be used with care primarily to diagnose problem areas in the network.
