Recharge Capacity Column
Column Type = Text

For storage resources, this column specifies the maximum rate (in MW) at which a storage resource can be recharged.  The method for implementing this value is determined by the Storage Recharge Capacity Applies To setting which defines whether the limit is set on the energy stored in the resource or used from the grid.

Energy input required to achieve a recharge rate will be higher by the reciprocal of unit efficiency, as specified in the Heat Rate column or by the Efficiency column .  For example, when Storage Recharge Capacity Applies To setting is Energy Stored, a unit with a Recharge Capacity of 100 MW will be limited to 100 MW of recharge per hour.  If that unit has a heat rate of 4265 Btu/kWh, then to achieve this 100 MWh of recharge to storage, 100*4265/3412=125 MWh of energy will be expended (assuming 3412 Btu/kWh represents 100% efficiency).

Energy input required to achieve this recharge rate will be higher by the reciprocal of unit efficiency, as specified in the Heat Rate column.  For example, a unit with a recharge capacity of 100 MW will be limited to 100 MW of recharge per hour.  However, if the heat rate entered is 4265 Btu/kWh, then to achieve this 100 MWh of recharge to storage, 100*4265/3412=125 MWh of energy will be expended (assuming 3412 Btu/kWh represents 100% efficiency).

NOTE: Inputs can be specified for any time period (annual, monthly, weekly, hourly or sub-hourly). For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.
