This column is used to specify a resource, or set of resources, which will limit the charging of the storage resources in the storage group. When specified, the total energy used for charging by all of the storage units in the group will be limited by the generation of the "charging resources" for each hour of the simulation, depending on how the Charging Resource Type is set. The most common usage of this capability is to tie a storage plant (like a battery unit) to a renewable plant so that the storage plant stores energy only when the renewable plant operates.
The input of the column can be a comma delimited list of:
Resource IDs
A single resource group ID, prefaced by the rg_ prefix (e.g. “rg_Area1Wind”)
A single new resource ID prefaced by the nr_id_ prefix (e.g. “nr_id_Solar1”). A new resource ID should only be referenced here by a storage group that contains new storage resource options. Aurora will pair each new storage resource with a single new resource of the type specified with the same begin year. Aurora then also adds constraints which force the referenced new resource to be built in combination with the new storage resource. In other words, for each storage resource in this storage group built by the long-term optimization, at least one of the referenced new resources (e.g. the renewable resource) must also be built in the same year.
NOTE: For long-term simulations, this column should only be used with one of the MIP LT methods.
See the StudyLog for details during a run of how Aurora matched up each storage new resource option with another new resource option.
