This column is used to determine the cost to serve the portfolio load and contract obligations with portfolio resources, and, if a shortfall is present use market purchases to make up the difference. Contracts that will be considered as obligations include Must Take and Resource Purchases/Sales contracts. Set this column to TRUE to solve for load only.
When Load Only is used, Aurora will first process the contractual obligations and add the net to the portfolio demand and the associated costs to the portfolio costs. The resultant net demand will be used to allocate Portfolio Resources. The portfolio resources are sorted from low cost to high cost and the model will attempt to allocate enough resource output to satisfy the demand, aggregating the costs to the portfolio as they are added. Should there be insufficient dispatched resources to satisfy the demand, the difference will be made up with market sales and these costs will be added to the portfolio. Note that the last resource selected could potentially have a MW contribution that is less than its Minimum Capacity.
Market sales as well as Contracts not considered as obligations are not processed if Load Only is enabled.
An entry of SIMPLE will invoke logic used in versions prior to v12.0.1048 in which the model sorts resources by average cost instead of by segments, giving a less precise answer. Additionally, if the phrase SIMPLE TRUE COST is used, Aurora will also sort the resources using their true costs and ignore bidding adjustments.
