Max Operating Reserve Column (Optional)
Column Type = Text

This optional column can be used to specify the maximum amount of resource capacity to use for operating reserves. This value is not affected by any capacity reduction for forced outage or maintenance. To specify a maximum operating reserve, simply populate this column with the maximum fraction (specified as values between 0 and 1) of the resource capacity to be used for operating reserves. For example, using a value of 0.5 on a unit with an hourly capacity of 100 MW, and a capability of 80 MW would allow up to 50 MW to be used for reserves, with the other 30 MW available to the supply stack. The default value for this column is 1.0, which will be used in the absence of the column or if the column contains a null value for a specified record.

For hydro resources, this column is used in conjunction with the optional Reserve Credit row in the Hydro Vectors table. Click here for more information on that row or the resulting calculations.

NOTE: During a run, a message will be displayed in the Status window if the operating reserve requirements of a zone cannot be met. This message is displayed only once for the first time the problem is encountered.

NOTE: If the FUEL reference is specified for this variable the value in the Fuel Table will be applied.

NOTE: Inputs can be specified for any time period (annual, monthly, weekly, hourly or sub-hourly). For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.
