Reserve Credit Column (Optional)

If this column exists, all hydro units using this hydro set will adjust the maximum unit capability that can be counted toward operating reserves. The computed hydro operating reserve credit is reduced by the hydro capability, including any reductions for forced outage or maintenance. The value(s) used in this row must be between 0 and 1. For example, if a value of 0.5 is used, 50% of the hydro resource(s) maximum capability can be used for operating reserves. A value of 1 implies that any surplus capacity, after adjustment for forced outage and maintenance, above hourly energy capability will be credited towards reserves. The default value for this row is 1.0, which will be used in the absence of the row or if the row contains a null value for a specified hydro number. The calculation for hydro unit reserve contribution is as follows:

Reserve Contribution = Unit Capacity (1-HourForcedOutageRate) (1-HourMaintenanceRate) (Reserve Credit) – Unit Capability.

This variable is used in conjunction with the optional Max Operating Reserve column in the Resources table. If a Max Operating Reserve is specified for a hydro resource, the computed hydro operating reserve credit is reduced by the hydro capability. If hydro resource capability is actually used for operating reserves, then the amount that can be used has a maximum of Max Operating Reserve * Capacity just like any other resource. The resulting calculation for hydro unit reserve contribution is as follows:

Reserve Contribution = Unit Capacity (1-HourForcedOutageRate) (1-HourMaintenanceRate) (Reserve Credit) – Min(Unit Capability , MaxOperatingReserve*Capacity)

NOTE: During a run, a message will be displayed in the Status window if the operating reserve requirements of a zone cannot be met. This message is displayed only once for the first time the problem is encountered.

NOTE: Inputs can be specified for any time period (annual, monthly, weekly, hourly or sub-hourly). For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.

For this variable, time series entries are resolved and used at the hourly level.
