Cycle Only Heat Rate Column
Column Type = Text

Aurora has the ability to model commitment units which, if not committed, may also have the ability to run in a cycling mode with a modified capacity, heat rate, and startup cost (e.g. running the simple cycle portion of a combined cycle unit). This option can only be applied to resources which are defined as Non-cycling and is activated by populating the Cycle Only Capacity column with a nonzero value.

The Cycle Only Heat Rate should be entered as the ratio of the cycle only heat rate to incremental heat rate of the unit (e.g. 1.2).  When multiple heat rate segments are specified for the unit (via the Heat Rate Definitions table), the value should be entered as the ratio of the cycle only heat rate to the incremental heat rate of the first heat rate segment after the Min Capacity.

If an input is specified for this column and there are Multiple Heat Rate Segments, the cycle only capability and cost are calculated for the whole unit based on inputs.  Then the capability and costs are applied to the first segment of the unit so that it can dispatch appropriately. For hours in which the unit is not committed and is running as a cycle only unit it will only have capability on its first segment, the rest will be zeroed out. Note that the first segment during such hours includes capability for all segments so the unit can only dispatch as a single unit.

NOTE: Inputs can be specified for any time period (annual, monthly, weekly, hourly or sub-hourly). For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.
