UBB Bidding Shape Column
Column Type = Text

The UBB Bidding Shape column allows users to specify a bidding shape for the Upper Bidding Block (UBB) of a resource. The UBB Bidding Shape value works in conjunction with the UBB Bidding Factor. The product of the UBB Bidding Shape and UBB Bidding Factor is added to one and multiplied by the resource variable cost to get the dispatch cost for the resource.  That is,

UBB Dispatch Cost ($/MWh) = Variable Cost ($/MWh) * (1+ UBB Bidding Factor * UBB Bidding Shape).

For example, if the variable cost of a resource is $100/MWh, the Bidding Factor is 0.1 and the Bidding Shape is 2, then the Dispatch Cost is $120/MWh [$100/MWh*(1+0.1*2)].

However, if the UBB Bidding Factor is not specified for a particular resource, any value specified for the UBB Bidding Shape for the same resource will have no effect. Further, since the UBB Bidding Factor column can reference time series tables, the UBB Bidding Shape column is largely redundant. Its principal purpose is to allow for backward compatibility.

The UBB Bidding Shape and UBB Bidding Factor columns allow for representation of bidding at prices that are greater than the cost of a resource. This number will override any general resource dispatch margin, which may be specified. The commitment penalty for non-committed non-cycling units will override any bidding factor set for those units.

NOTE: If the FUEL reference is specified for this variable the value in the Fuel Table will be applied.

NOTE: The Upper Bidding Block (UBB) Segment Size and Heat Rate must be specified for the resource. If the Bidding Factor is zero or not given then no shape is applied and the Bidding Shape value will have no effect.

NOTE: The Use Bidding Logic switch must be set to apply bidding logic to the study, located in the Resource folder of Simulation Options.

NOTE: Inputs can be specified for any time period (annual, monthly, weekly, hourly or sub-hourly). For information on how to specify a time series for a variable, see Entering a Time Series.
