Bidding Shape Column

The Bidding Shape column allows the user to specify a bidding shape. The Bidding Shape value works in conjunction with the Bidding Factor .  The product of the Bidding Shape and Bidding Factor is added to one and multiplied by the resource variable cost to get the dispatch cost for the resource.  That is (assuming dollars for currency),

Dispatch Cost ($/MWh) = Variable Cost ($/MWh) * (1+Bidding Factor * Bidding Shape)

For example, if the variable cost of a resource is $100/MWh, the Bidding Factor is 0.1 and the Bidding Shape is 2, then the Dispatch Cost is $120/MWh [$100/MWh*(1+0.1*2)].

However, if the Bidding Factor is not specified for a particular resource, any value specified for the Bidding Shape for the same resource will have no effect.  Further, since the Bidding Factor column can reference time series tables, the Bidding Shape column is largely redundant.  Its principal purpose is to allow for backward compatibility.

The Bidding Shape and Bidding Factor columns allow for representation of bidding at prices that are greater than the cost of a resource. This number will override any general resource dispatch margin, which may be specified.  The commitment penalty for non-committed non-cycling units will override any bidding factor set for those units.  For both “Must Run” and committed units, bidding is only applied to the dispatchable segment of the unit and not the minimum segment.

 NOTE: The Use bidding logic switch must be selected to apply bidding logic to the study, located in the Resource folder of Simulation Options.  If the Bidding Factor is zero or not given then no shape is applied and the Bidding Shape value will have no effect.

 

 NOTE: If a resource references the Heat Rate Definition (HRD) table, the bidding columns in the Resources or New Resources tables will be ignored for that resource.  All Heat Rate and UBB information should then be entered in the HRD table. 

 

 NOTE: If the FUEL reference is specified for this variable the value in the Fuel table will be applied.
