Allow Contingency Islanding
Only select this option when the Allow Multiple Islands in Base Network option is also selected and offers the ability to include islands created by contingencies in the solution.
Check this option to invoke logic that approximates a theoretical post-contingency dispatch solution while avoiding the significant computer strain of a more precise solution. See the Knowledge Base article Nodal Contingency Islanding for details and formulas.
When the switch is unchecked, any contingency which would cause additional islands to be created in the network is ignored.
Additional Reporting
The following informational messages, found in the NodalStudyLog output table, directly pertain to the use of this switch and can be useful in understanding what affect is the switch having on the study.
- Computations for xx contingencies completed. xx allowed and xx excluded for excessive islanding or singularity.
- Contingency island count in allowed contingencies = xx.
