Annual MW Retirement Limit

Use this option to chronologically limit the MW amount of resources dropped each year for the system.

This limit is for economically driven retirements and does not include any deterministic retirements contained within the Resources table. (The definition of new resource options is found in the New Resource table.)

The retirement limit for a given year governs how much capacity can leave the system at the end of the last day of the previous year. For example, if the retirement limit is input in the Time Series Annual table as 500 MW for the year 2020, then at most 500 MW will be able to have a retirement date of 12/31/2019 (retirement dates are always the last day of the year), meaning that the units would leave the system at the end of the day on 12/31/2019.  In other words, the retirement limit for a given year governs how much capacity can go offline on January 1st of that year.

When using the MIP method, decisions are made on a pool level if Operating Pools are being used, and the model ensures that the total annual retirements are limited by the limit specified for each pool.  Because pools are solved individually, this global retirement limit may not be honored, but the model will ensure that it is met for each pool individually.

NOTE: Inputs may be specified as an annual vector via a reference to an ID in the Time Series Annual table. See Entering a Time Series for more information.
