Adding Hydro Sets

The hydro tables, Hydro Monthly and Hydro Vectors, hold unique hydro sets to define patterns of hourly hydro generation in Aurora.

Hydro projects define which hydro set to use by specifying a Hydro Number in the Resources table. This value must correspond to a Name in both the Hydro Monthly and Hydro Vectors tables.

If you enter AREA as the value for this field, then the value for the unit’s Area will be used as the reference to the column in the hydro tables.

Steps to Adding Hydro Sets

Make a copy of the existing database or table to preserve the original data. You may change the reference to the database in Aurora. This setting will be preserved in the saved project file.
Add rows for each of the additional hydro sets that you want to create. You will need an additional row in both the Hydro Monthly and Hydro Vectors tables for each additional hydro set. Choose identical Names for the pair. See Editing Database Tables for additional information on adding these columns.
Input the desired data into the new rows in the Hydro Monthly and Hydro Vectors tables. By default, you may want to copy the data from an existing hydro set. New data in the Hydro Monthly table requires that you have the required data for monthly and annual energies. New data in the Hydro Vectors table requires detailed knowledge of river system constraints and hourly shaping. Data for the Hydro Vectors (shaping factor, minimum, maximum, etc) can be input directly in the Hydro Vectors table if constant, or if it will change with time can be stored in the Time Series Annual and Times Series Monthly tables.
Identify the hydro resources that will use the newly defined hydro sets and enter the changes in the Resources table. For each hydro unit that will use one of the new sets in the hydro tables, change the reference in the Resources table for the column Hydro Number to the Name of the new hydro set in the hydro tables.
All necessary changes to add additional hydro sets to the Aurora database are complete. Check through all changes carefully and examine the results to ensure the inputs were appropriate.
