NOTE: Queries and joins created in Aurora for use with SQL or mySQL may not work with xmpSQL, and vice versa. Most queries will need to be recreated or modified for each type of SQL and they are generally not interchangeable except for the most basic of queries. This is because the different types of SQL (MySQL, SQL Server, xmpSQL) each have their own syntax so queries or joins created on one type of database output will not work with another database output type.
Once a table has been created through a query, it may be edited by:
Right-clicking on the table name in the Output Tables window and selecting Query Table or by
Right-clicking on a query template in the Explorer Bar and selecting Edit Query if it has been saved as a Quick View.
Either action will open the Aurora Output DB Query Builder window
If the query syntax is recognized by the Query Builder, it will be populated and available for editing the query. Modifications can also be made directly to the syntax in the lower area of the form (this is only recommended for those familiar with SQL syntax).
NOTE: If the Query Builder does not recognize the syntax, the addition of a new table in the Main area will result in loss of all syntax. If this occurs, select Cancel from the form toolbar to exit the Query Builder without saving changes.
When the modifications are complete, select Save SQL then Exit from the toolbar. Open the table, and if satisfied with the result, save the query in a Quick View using the Save as Quick View button from the Data Table Toolbar.
The only way to permanently save a query is within a Quick View using the Save as Quick View button from the Data Table Toolbar. This saves the query in an output Quick View for easy future access. When a table is built from a query, that table has a query associated with it (i.e., a table produced by a query is never permanently stored in the output database). Thus, that query will be lost (along with its table) when the output dataset is cleared. This can happen in a number of different ways (e.g., starting a new run without "Multiple runs to the database" selected). As long as it has been saved as a Quick View, the next time the project is loaded the query can be executed to quickly reproduce the table.
As with other output tables, tables based on query results can also be used to create new charts, reports, and output, computational, and pivot tables. Queries will be saved to any Quick View that has used a query table to produce the data for the view. Output, chart, report, compute and pivot table Quick Views will all save queries that were used to create underlying data tables. See Using Quick Views for more information on working with Quick Views.
NOTE: Each saved view type is independent of other Quick View types. Editing a query in one Quick View (e.g., output) will not change a query in a different Quick view (e.g., chart created from that output), though it might have originally been saved from the same query output table.
