The Storage table contains parameters for Storage Type Resources that employ the enhanced storage logic in Aurora. By default, storage units defined in the Resources table make use of the standard week-ahead scheduling logic, but the more detailed storage scheduling logic (i.e. the “enhanced” logic) is employed by referencing this table.
Each line item in this table establishes the characteristics of a unique storage group that can be referenced by one or more storage resources via the Storage ID column in the Resources table. When a storage type resource references the Storage table, the following inputs are still used from the Resources table to define unit specific storage characteristics:
For each unit in a storage group, these unit-specific characteristics are then combined with the group-level characteristics, which for the most part are defined as multipliers on top of unit-level values. Aurora schedules the storage unit operation at the beginning of each month (though this can be further refined by the Commitment Optimization logic when that is being employed).
By default, only those resources with a Storage ID specified will use the enhanced logic, but if the logic setting Use Enhanced Logic for All Storage Units is selected, then Aurora automatically converts the parameters in the Resources table into what the enhanced logic needs for any resources whose Storage ID column is not populated. This provides an easy way to switch from the traditional approach to the enhanced method without having to change any underlying assumptions.
